Since 2010 Madison United has provided a six-week summer program - Youth Flag Rugby. Boys and girls entering grades 3-9 learn and play non-contact sevens rugby. It provides structure for developing running, passing, catching and kicking skills, with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork.

In 2017 we’re excited to continue the partnerships we started last year with community Recreation Departments. We are set to go in Stoughton and McFarland, and in Madison we are adding an East side site. In an effort to add Middleton and Verona sites we will teach at a Spring sport introduction series in Middleton, and in Verona we plan a schedule change that should make their participation possible as well.

2017 summer sessions will be Monday and Wednesday evenings, June 19 - July 26. Times and locations will be set and posted here when they are confirmed. Games will be on Saturdays July 7, 14, 21, and 28.

RUGBY VALUES

The governing body of rugby is the World Rugby, fka the International Rugby Board (IRB). Under either name, the organization has operated by the motto that we have been “Building Character since 1866.”

Madison United is committed to the values espoused by the governing board, and our coaches are trained to them. With our age groups and limited time together we tend to focus on the themes of respect, fair play, effort, and having fun.

GOLF OUTING SUPPORTS YOUTH PROGRAMS

The camaraderie was plentiful at the inaugural Rugby Legends Golf Classic last September 9. A great mix of adult rugby players, community members, families, and friends came together to compete for the Sandner Cup and to raise funds to our youth programs. We were able to support coach training and certification through USARugby, and to expand locations in 2017.

We’re thankful to all of our participants and the following business sponsors!

FIRST BUSINESS BANK * HAUSMANN-JOHNSON INSURANCE * COOPERS TAVERN

CULLIGAN TOTAL WATER * SCHRAML REALTY GROUP * CALLEN CONSTRUCTION

Mark your calendars - we’ll do it again, bigger and better, on September 8, 2017!
